Synchronised Swimming Or Artistic Swimming?

Artistic swimming, formerly known as synchronised swimming, has been a part of the Summer Olympics since 1984. Originally, the sport featured solo and duet categories exclusively for women.

The sport underwent a significant rebranding in 2017 when the international governing body for aquatic sports changed its name from "synchronised swimming" to "artistic swimming."

The change aimed to reduce confusion about the nature of the sport, clarifying that synchronisation refers to harmony with the music rather than just the athletes' movements.
