New Delhi: Sportswear giant Nike is also ambitious about metaverse as it has collaborated with Roblox to create Nikeland, a virtual world, as the battle in this space heats up. Nikeland virtual worlds will be free for now, according to reports.

In its current iteration, Nikeland includes minigames such as tag, dodgeball and the floor is lava that players can check out with their friends.

"Nikeland visitors can take advantage of accelerometers in their mobile devices to transfer offline movement to online play. For example, you can move your device and body IRL to pull off cool in-game moves like long jumps or speed runs," the company wrote on its page.

According to the sportswear giant, Nikeland is free for anyone to visit and experience on Roblox, breaking down one of the biggest barriers to sport -- access.

Nike, including other brands that have given a push to their metaverse dreams, see the value in its ability of metaverse. According to reports, Nike has seen the ability to connect with a new generation of athletes and get them to fall in love with the brand, which can eventually translate into real-world sales.

The metaverse is a shared virtual space where the real and virtual worlds merge into one.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, Meta, formerly Facebook, took another step to show how serious it is about augmented reality and virtual reality, the company has unveiled a prototype wearable that mimics the feeling of handling real objects in the virtual world.

After quietly working on it for almost seven years, Meta Reality Labs is now ready with a prototype of a haptic glove that reproduces sensations like grasping an object or running your hand along a surface.
