New Delhi: Netflix on Tuesday announced it is introducing a change to its rating system that will let users give a "double thumbs up" to a show or a film, in a bid to further improve recommendations.
"When you love something, you want to tell your family, friends, and coworkers. You want to talk about it all over social media. And you want more of it ASAP.
"That’s why we’re introducing Double Thumbs Up, an additional way for members to let us know what types of series and films you want to see more of. You can find this option next to the Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down buttons on your TV, Web, Android and iOS mobile devices starting today," Christine Doig-Cardet, Director of Product Innovation, Netflix, said in a statement.
Currently, the available thumbs up and thumbs down rating buttons on the platform let users say how they feel about a series or film and in return, their profile gets recommendations that are personalised according to their tastes. The double thumbs up button is available in India, but it will be available for all users across Android and iOS in a phased rollout.
"Consider Double Thumbs Up as a way to fine-tune your recommendations to see even more series or films influenced by what you love. A Thumbs Up still lets us know what you liked, so we use this response to make similar recommendations. But a Double Thumbs Up tells us what you loved and helps us get even more specific with your recommendations. For example, if you loved Bridgerton, you might see even more shows or films starring the cast, or from Shondaland," Doig-Cardet added.
Earlier, until 2017, the video streaming major allowed users to give a rating out of five to a title or film, but later it did away with the feature saying it was "dated".
