New Delhi: In a big push to its gaming ambitions, streaming giant Netflix announced it has started rolling out mobile games for its users on Android devices globally, after weeks of tests in select markets. An Android user needs to have a Netflix subscription to play these games.
"We love games, whether it's physical games (Floor Is Lava), mind games (The Circle) or Squid Game😉. And we love entertaining our members. That’s why we’re excited to take our first step in launching Netflix games on mobile to the world. Starting today, members everywhere can play five mobile games: Stranger Things: 1984 (BonusXP), Stranger Things 3: The Game (BonusXP), Shooting Hoops (Frosty Pop), Card Blast (Amuzo & Rogue Games), and Teeter Up (Frosty Pop)," Mike Verdu, VP, Game Development at Netflix said in a statement late on Tuesday.
The streaming giant mentioned it wanted to begin to build a library of games that offers something for everyone.
"We’re in the early days of creating a great gaming experience, and we’re excited to take you on this journey with us," Verdu added.
Here's all you should know about playing games on Netflix:
Netflix membership is an all-access pass
All one needs is a Netflix subscription. A user can play sans ads, no additional fees and no in-app purchases.
Play games offline
While some mobile games may require an internet connection, others will be available to play offline, in order to make for those long trips and areas with patchy Wi-Fi.
Available on Android devices globally
Netflix mobile games are currently available on Android devices when users log into their Netflix profile. Users on an Android mobile phone will see a dedicated games row and games tab where they can select any game to download. Members on an Android tablet will see a dedicated games row or be able to select games from the categories drop down menu to download and play.
Games only for adults profiles
Netflix noted that child safety was important to the parents, caregivers and guardians on our service and hence these games are not available on kids profiles. If a user sets up a PIN to prevent kids from having access to adult profiles, that same PIN will be required in order to log in to Netflix and play the game on a device.
Game languages
Netflix mobile games are available in many of the languages Netflix offers on service, so the games will automatically default to the preference set in their Netflix profile. If a user's language is not yet available, games will default to English language.
