New Delhi: Twitter chief Elon Musk, who has been a proponent of free speech on the social media platform, has reportedly threatened to sue employees who leak company information to the media. The new Twitter chief told employees to sign a pledge indicating they've understood him clearly, reported tech publication Platformer.
Going by the email accessed by Platformer's Zoe Schiffer, Musk has written to employees that Twitter will "immediately seek damages" if they violate their non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). "As evidenced by the many detailed leaks of confidential Twitter information, a few people at our company continue to act in a manner contrary to the company's interests and in violation of their NDA," the email read as quoted in the report.
"This will be said only once: If you clearly and deliberately violate the NDA that you signed when you joined, you accept liability to the full extent of the law & Twitter will immediately seek damages," Musk told the employees.
Musk clearly stated that occasional slip-ups are understandable "but breaking your word by sending detailed info to the media" with the intent to harm Twitter "will receive the response it deserves". The employees were given time till Sunday to sign the pledge indicating they abide by the policy.
Meanwhile, two female Twitter employees have filed a class-action lawsuit against the Musk-run company, accusing the micro-blogging platform of violating federal and state California laws that ban gender discrimination in the workplace. The billionaire entrepreneur is currently busy unveiling the inside operations at Twitter during the US presidential election in 2020, which may involve election interference from top executives.
Twitter will be relaunching the Twitter Blue service on Monday. However, the price of Twitter Blue will be higher for Apple users than others. People can subscribe to Twitter Blue on the web at $8 per month, or on iOS for $11 per month. The Twitter Blue subscription service allows its users to avail features such as the blue check mark, among others.
