Instagram Threads, the new rival of microblogging platform Twitter, now has surpassed a whopping 100 million sign-ups in just five days of its launch. Threads was launched by Meta, parent company of Facebook, on July 6 and since then various users have downloaded and they have been sharing their experiences about the app. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to Instafram to share his excitement about Threads reaching 100 million sign ups within five days.
Zuckerberg shared Threads of some famous celebrities including Microsoft founder Bill Gates, former Tennis star Roger Federer among others in a post. "Threads reached 100 million sign ups this weekend -- within five days of launching. Thanks to all of you who are making this fun and friendly!," Zuckerberg wrote.
Zuckerberg shared Thread of Microsoft Founder Bill Gates also took to Threads and shared his excitement on joining the app. "I’m excited to jump into @threadsapp," Gates wrote.
Former Tennis star Roger Federer also shared a Thread. “Did somebody say FEDiverse?,” he wrote.
Popular footwear brand also took to the new social media platform and wrote, “to sock and slide or not to socks abd slide today…” Meta Platforms CEO replied to the Thread and wrote, "No socks for life".
According to tracker Quiver Quantitative, there are more than 100 million users on Threads now. It should be noted that Twitter started showing some content to visitors even without logging in to an account, which was not available for them before the launch of Instagram Threads which is being seen as a potential threat to Twitter. Meta CEO and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg had said last week that Threads attracted over two million users in a few hours.
Instagram Threads is closely linked to a user's Instagram account and is positioned as an alternative to micro-blogging site Twitter, which was acquired by tech billionaire and SpaceX owner Musk last year. Instagram Threads has been introduced globally, except in the EU, and has witnessed a meteoric rise within days of launch.
Instagram Threads has outpaced OpenAI’s ChatGPT AI chatbot which went viral and became the fastest-growing product by garnering 10 million daily users in 40 days and 100 million monthly users in almost two months. However, Instagram Threads has now become the fastest-growing platform, having crossed the milestone of 100 million monthly active users (MAUs).
