Halloween 2024: Google has given fans a Halloween treat this year by reviving its beloved Magic Cat Academy game with a fresh twist. Originally launched in 2016 for Halloween, the game features Momo, a skilled feline wizard (based on a real-life catto), who must use her wand to fight off a variety of mischievous ghosts. This year, Google has added a brand-new level to the game, sending Momo on an interstellar mission to defend against her spectral rival, Marshmallow the ghost, across the different atmospheric layers surrounding Earth.

Over the years, Momo has tackled all kinds of eerie adventures. In her first game appearance, she confronted ghoulish forces inside her school, protecting her classmates and defeating spectral foes lurking in the hallways.

Later, Momo faced underwater dangers, encountering aquatic phantoms in an under-the-sea adventure. With each new instalment, Magic Cat Academy has continued to capture the imaginations of players worldwide, with each level showcasing increasingly imaginative ghostly battles and new spell-casting challenges.

This year, Google has turned up the stakes, launching Momo on an “out of this world” journey where she must face Marshmallow in a series of encounters as they ascend through the Earth’s atmosphere. The game’s graphics and animations bring this supernatural showdown to life, providing a highly interactive and immersive gaming experience perfect for the Halloween season.

From dodging ghouls to casting spells with a swipe, the gameplay is designed to be accessible yet challenging enough to keep players engaged.

Celine You, Olivia When, Juliana Chen, Helene Leroux, and Alyssa Winans led the visual design, while Stephanie Gu, Jonathan Shneier, and Jasper Louie handled the game’s engineering. Silas Hite, known for his creative approach to sound, added an eerie but playful soundtrack to match the Halloween vibe.
