French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday met Twitter CEO Elon Musk during his US visit and discussed the content moderation policy of the social media giant among other things.
Taking to Twitter, Macron informed about the meeting terming it as a ‘clear and honest discussion’ on user policies, content moderation, and freedom of speech. He said, “I'll say it here, on Twitter, because it’s all about the blue bird. This afternoon I met with @elonmusk and we had a clear and honest discussion:”
“Transparent user policies, significant reinforcement of content moderation and protection of freedom of speech: efforts have to be made by Twitter to comply with European regulations,” he added
Macron further said that Elon Musk has confirmed Twitter’s participation in the Christchurch Call that demands global participation to fight terrorists and extremists.
He reacted to Musk’s November 11 confirmation to the former’s question if the bird will protect the children. Macron tweeted, “We will work with Twitter to improve online child protection. Elon Musk confirmed it to me today. Let’s better protect our children online!”
The French president also held discussions with Musk over decarbonizing and reindustrializing France and Europe, and an exchange on future green industrial projects, such as manufacturing of electric vehicles and batteries.
The developments came a day after President Macron flagged his concerns on the issue of Twitter’s new content moderation policy. On Thursday, he said in a television interview that he believed there were “responsibilities and limits” to free speech.
Reacting to the meeting, Musk said, “It was an honor to see you again. Looking forward to exciting plans in France!”
Emmanuel Macron met US President Joe Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris among others during his visit to the United States of America.
