Google has finally released the first Developer Preview. The tech giant released it a day later than expected. With Android 15, Google aims to enhance productivity and media experiences. The company also wishes to focus on boosting app performance, preserving battery life, and enhancing user privacy and security across various devices, simultaneously.   • Privacy Sandbox: Android 15 upgrades Android AD Services to extension level 10, incorporating the latest Privacy Sandbox for personalised advertising experiences while prioritising the privacy of users.

  • Health Connect: Android 15 integrates Android 14 extensions 10, offering a secure platform to manage and share health data collected by apps.

  • File Integrity: Android 15 introduces File Integrity Manager with enhanced security features utilizing fs-verity to prevent unauthorised file modifications or malware attacks.

  • Partial Screen Sharing: Android 15 supports sharing or recording specific app windows for improved user consent and privacy.


What Support Does Android 15 Brings For Creators


Android 15 will provide tools and hardware support for creators. Some of the support that it offers are:



  • In-app Camera Controls: It will offer more control over camera hardware and algorithms, facilitating low light enhancements and flash adjustments.

  • Virtual MIDI 2.0 Devices: Android 15 extends support to virtual MIDI apps, enabling composition apps to control synthesisers effectively.


Performance & Quality Enhancements


Android 15 expands the Android Dynamic Performance Framework (ADPF) with power-efficiency modes and thermal management capabilities. It will also enhance developer productivity by adding OpenJDK APIs and quality-of-life improvements, to ensure compatibility with over a billion devices running Android 12+.


The next Developer Preview will be released in March.
