New Delhi: As 2021 draws to an end, search engine giant Google on Tuesday announced its Google Play’s Best of 2021 in India list and according to that Battlegrounds Mobile India or BGMI, a game developed specifically for India, grabbed the top spot in the Best Game of the year in the country.
According to the search engine giant, gaming continues to gain significant interest in the country and Garena Free Fire MAX won the Users’ Choice pick in India. On the other hand, popular audio chat app Clubhouse bagged the Users’ Choice app of the year, thus, highlighting the country's rising fondness for voice and audio-based platforms.
"In India, once again, we saw a diverse range of apps help people across the country with relevant – and often unique – solutions to their daily needs. This year, we saw a distinctive rise in e-learning, with many winners finding creative ways to help India learn a range of skills online, be it mastering a passion through celebrity-led virtual classes with FrontRow, or using AI to scale student learning outcomes with EMBIBE," the company said in a statement.
According to Google Play, Best App of the year was Bitclass, which is a platform enabling interactive cohort-based learning. It also reiterated the emergence of a digital learning culture in India backed by innovative localised solutions.
Indians are also getting inclined towards health and well-being were and winners in this category included Jumping Minds, Evolve, being, SARVA, and Evergreen Club that helped people better manage their mental health and well-being. To encourage innovation across Google Play, this year the company has also included three new categories and expanded the awards to apps on tablets and Wear OS and games on tablets.
