Samsung is reportedly making strides towards launching a tri-fold smartphone, following the success of its foldable devices. Although Samsung pioneered foldable technology, the move to a tri-fold design seems to mirror Huawei’s recent innovations.
Speculation about Samsung’s work on a tri-fold phone has been circulating since early 2023, with rumours that it delayed the Galaxy S23 FE release to prioritise this project. Although a concept for this tri-fold device was showcased at the Samsung Developers Conference in October 2023, an official release has yet to happen, with expectations now set for 2025.
2 New Samsung Foldables In 2025
According to a report by ZDNet Korea, Samsung Electronics is planning to introduce two new foldable devices in 2025. One of these is an entry-level clamshell foldable, and the other is a tri-fold smartphone, designed to fold in two places, potentially revolutionising the market.
The components for the tri-fold phone have already been developed, but the final decision on its release lies with Samsung’s MX division leadership.

No Plans For Budget-Friendly Foldable Yet
Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition, an upgrade in the company’s foldable lineup. However, contrary to earlier rumours, Samsung confirmed that it has no plans to launch a cheaper version of its Galaxy Z Fold series.
South Korean publication SisaJournal reported that the company has dismissed the idea of releasing a budget-friendly foldable model, refuting speculation that a more affordable device could be priced as low as $80 (approx. Rs 67,000).
Despite the value that Samsung’s foldables offer, especially with competitors like OnePlus, the company has faced criticism for not advancing hardware at the same pace as some Chinese manufacturers. However, Samsung maintains that the Galaxy Z Fold series was introduced to offer users more variety, not solely as a high-end product.
