Apple at its Far Out event launched the much-awaited iPhone 14 series globally as well as in the Indian market. The new iPhone 14 lineup comprises four models -- iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. There's no iPhone mini this year, but the Plus variant has returned.
One of the biggest USPs of the iPhone 14 series seems to be the "notch bubble" on the biggest iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. There's a smaller notch in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. The company is calling it Dynamic Island which expands to notify, and present content and controls without distracting from the app a user is in.
The base variant of the series, iPhone 14, still runs on last year's A15 Bionic chip and doesn't bring many differences from last year's iPhone 13. However, there are a few differences between the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14 in terms of design language, changes on the outside and a few other aspects.
We bring you the biggest differences between the new iPhone 14 and the iPhone 13.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 are identical but different
As mentioned, the new iPhone 14 looks quite identical to last year's iPhone 13 and also comes with the same A15 Bionic chip. However, the biggest difference between the two models is a brighter and bigger main camera sensor -- iPhone 14 has a new 12MP main camera with a larger sensor and larger pixels at 1.9 microns. Apart from the camera, the iPhone 14 features SOS safety features such as Satellite Connectivity as well as a Crash Detection feature. The selfie camera of the iPhone has autofocus.
Similar to the iPhone 13, the iPhone 14 also features diagonally stacked camera lenses at the back. However, the notch is slightly smaller in the iPhone 14 as compared to last year's iPhone 13. Only the iPhone 14 Pro models have the Dynamic Island cutout.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13 price
The iPhone 14 has been unveiled at a price of $799 which roughly translates into Rs 64,000 as per INR, but the starting price of iPhone 14 base model in India is Rs 79,900. Last year's iPhone 13 is currently retailing in India at a starting price of Rs 67,999 for the 128GB memory model.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13 battery
The new iPhone 14 comes with a slightly bigger battery than the iPhone 13. The iPhone 13 features a 3240mAh, Li-ion battery while the iPhone 14 comes with a 3279mAh Li-ion battery. It should be noted that both the iPhone 13 and the new iPhone 14 come with support for MagSafe wireless charging at 15W speed.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13 colourways
The new iPhone 14 has been introduced in five colours: Starlight, Blue, Midnight, Purple and (Product) Red while the iPhone 13 was introduced in Pink, Starlight, Blue, Midnight, Green and Red colourways.
No physical SIM card tray in iPhone 14
Apple has done away with the physical SIM card tray in the iPhone 14, but only for US buyers. This means that those buying the new iPhone 14 would have to opt for eSIM only. With the iPhone 13, you'd get a physical SIM card tray in the US too.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13 software and performance
Apple is using last year's A15 Bionic chip on the new iPhone 14, which also powered the iPhone 13. However, Apple is touting that the new A15 chipset on the iPhone 14 has 5-core GPU that can deliver up to 20 per cent boost in graphics.
