Showcased at WWDC 2023, iOS 17 is expected to be rolled out for all after the launch of the iPhone 15 line in September. The new iOS 17 will bring new features and among them will be a few notable India-centric features. One of the key India-centric features of iOS 17 will be the expansion of transliteration keyboards to major Indian languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. These keyboards are useful for bilingual users who move between English and another language while talking to family and friends. The new languages come at the heels of transliteration keyboards for Urdu, Punjabi, and Gujarati introduced in iOS 16.4, Bengali and Marathi introduced in iOS 16 and Hindi. With this, iOS supports transliteration keyboards for the top ten local languages in the country. This will also be available on new iPad OS, macOS and watchOS.

With iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, Siri will become bilingual, so that users can interact with Siri in a mix of English and Hindi. Apple users will be able to use a combination of English with Indian local languages like Telegu, Punjabi, Kannada and Marathi.

Apple will roll out a new ability with iOS 17 that enables Messages to be sorted by their primary as well as secondary SIM, for example, to be able to easily sort personal messages from work messages. The new iOS will also let iPhone users set different ringtones for each SIM, to understand if the device is ringing because someone is calling a work phone number or a personal phone number.

The Cupertino-based tech giant has rolled out the last beta update of the iOS 17 and the stable version of iOS 17 may be rolled out next month. Apple is likely to roll out iOS 17 for last year's iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, apart from the much-anticipated iPhone 15 series.

As previewed at WWDC 2023, Messages will also get significant updates, including an all-new stickers experience with new emoji stickers and the ability to create Live Stickers by lifting subjects from photos. iPhone users can also add effects to Live Stickers that bring them to life, and a new drawer in the keyboard puts all of a user’s stickers in one place for easier access across iOS.
