As the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona reached its conclusion, the big winner of the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) this year in the smartphone category was announced. Google Pixel 8 series has won the 'Best Smartphone' award by defeating smartphones including iPhone 15 Pro lineup, Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup, Samsung Z Flip 5, OnePlus Open and many more. The Pixel 8 lineup from Google was recognised for its “outstanding performance, innovation and leadership,” according to the GSMA, the organisation behind the GLOMO awards.

Google Pixel series has made a name for itself in the global market, especially for its camera capabilities which are powered by advanced AI and computational photography. The new Pixel 8 models build on that foundation and were launched in the markets with updated camera hardware and generative AI-powered editing features.

Google Snatches The Prize From Apple & Samsung For The First Time

Although Apple and Samsung have previously alternated winning this award, this marks the inaugural occasion where Google has secured the top smartphone prize. The Apple iPhone 14 Pro claimed the title in 2023, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max emerged victorious in 2022. In the year 2021, the Galaxy S21 Ultra earned the accolade.

In addition to Google's triumph, Qualcomm received the 'Breakthrough Device Innovation' award for its latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The judges acknowledged Qualcomm's deserving recognition for "core hardware and software innovation within smartphone devices."

Simultaneously, Samsung's Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra was honoured with the 'Best Connected Consumer Device' award, surpassing products like augmented reality glasses and smartwatches. The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra impressed with its seamless integration of smartphone and PC capabilities within a single portable device.

Concluding the major device awards, the Magic V2 RSR Porsche Edition foldable phone secured the 'Best in Show' recognition, lauded for its innovative design inspired by supercars. Unveiled at MWC 2023, the device left a lasting impression on tech journalists and industry experts.

Despite Mobile World Congress 2023 not witnessing numerous groundbreaking product announcements, it still served as a platform for these companies to showcase their latest advancements.
