New Delhi: Apple late on Tuesday announced the third-gen iPhone SE (2022) at its Peek Performance event which is also its first event of 2022. The new iPhone SE (2022) features the Apple A15 Bionic SoC that is also featured in last year's iPhone 13 lineup and 5G connectivity. The prices of the new iPhone SE (2022) in India starts at Rs 43,900 for the base 64GB variant even as in the US, the cost of the new iPhone SE (2022) starts at $429 which is roughly Rs 33,000. The iPhone SE 5G will go on sale starting March 18, and its pre-orders will go live starting March 11.

The new iPhone SE is available in Midnight, Starlight and (PRODUCT) RED colours and will go on pre-orders in other regions globally too apart from India beginning this Friday.

The design language of the iPhone SE has not changed much since its predecessor, but a new addition is the inclusion of 5G support which was available in the pricier iPhone 12 series and the iPhone 13 lineup. The iPhone SE (2022) also has the A15 Bionic chip which is the same processor included in the iPhone 13 series as well as the sixth-gen iPad tablet.

“iPhone SE has been an incredibly popular choice with our existing users and for new iPhone customers, thanks to its iconic design, exceptional performance, and affordable price. This year we’ve built the most powerful and durable iPhone SE yet, with better battery life thanks to A15 Bionic, the same chip as our iPhone 13 lineup that also unlocks advanced camera features like Smart HDR 4, Photographic Styles, and Deep Fusion,” Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, said in a statement.

“And with 5G, iPhone SE gives users faster downloads and uploads, higher quality video streaming, real-time interactivity in apps, and much more. Delivering the latest generation of technology and performance at this price is something only Apple can do.”

APPLE PEEK PERFORMANCE EVENT: FULL COVERAGE

The iPhone SE 5G features a 4.7-inch Retina display with thick bezels which is unlike what we have seen in the new iPhone 13 models. Apple has retained the home button which houses the Touch ID sensor. In terms of cameras, the iPhone SE 5G camera houses a 12MP sensor and runs iOS 15 that is promised to get years of updates. It is being claimed that the new iPhone SE (2022) has the most durable glass on any smartphone; the new model also has IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

The addition of the A15 chip also means significant improvements to the cameras on the new iPhone SE, including features such as Smart HDR 4, Photographic Styles, and Deep Fusion. Despite the addition of 5G support, the tech giant claims that the new iPhone SE has better battery life. The new iPhone SE (2022) is a follow up to the iPhone SE that was unveiled in 2020. The first iPhone SE was launched in 2016 and combined the body of an iPhone 5S with the internals of an iPhone 6. The phone cost $399 and was an unexpected hit for Apple. The model became popular among users who wanted a compact iPhone at an affordable price point.
