After the win of former US President Donald Trump in the recent elections, a number of users are fleeing X and switching to another social media platform known as Bluesky. After the win of Trump, the upcoming change to the terms of service of X threatens to complicate the legal challenges that Elon Musk and his team will have to face. According to a Reuters report, Bluesky reported on Thursday that it has added approximately 2.5 million new users over the past week, bringing its total user base to over 16 million.
The platform is one of several apps positioning themselves as alternatives to the service formerly known as Twitter, following Elon Musk’s acquisition.
Bluesky said, "We're seeing record-high activity levels across all different forms of engagement: likes, follows, new accounts, etc, and we're on track to add 1 million new users in one day alone."

Mission Vacate X?
Several prominent organizations and individuals, including the nonprofit Center for Countering Digital Hate, British news outlet The Guardian, and former CNN anchor Don Lemon, have announced their departure from X, citing concerns over platform content and upcoming changes to its terms. During the recent election, misinformation experts criticized X for facilitating the spread of false narratives about key battleground states.
On November 6, the day news broke of Trump’s presidential victory with support from Musk, X saw a record-breaking 46.5 million visits in the U.S., marking a 38% increase compared to an average day in recent months, according to data from SimilarWeb. However, the surge in traffic coincided with over 115,000 U.S. users deactivating their accounts—the highest number since Musk acquired the platform.
In contrast, Bluesky’s website attracted approximately 1.2 million visitors on November 6, outperforming Meta-owned Threads, which saw around 950,000 visitors. However, Threads’ mobile app traffic continued to surpass that of Bluesky’s.
