New Delhi: SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday tweeted that the Twitter algorithm is manipulating the users of the microblogging platform in ways they "don't realize", and listed three "very important" steps to fix one's Twitter feed.
The three steps that Musk mentioned are:
- Tap home button
- Tap stars on upper right of screen
- Select "Latest tweets".
He also wrote: "You are being manipulated by the algorithm in ways you don't realize. Easy to switch back & forth to see the difference."
In the same thread, Musk wrote sarcastically: "(This message is brought to you by the Illuminaughty)".
For the unversed, the illuminati is a designation assumed by or applied to groups of persons who claim to be unusually enlightened.
In response to Musk's tweet, Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter, said that the algorithm of the microblogging platform was designed simply to save time when a user is away from the app for a while. He wrote that pull to refresh goes back to "reverse chron" as well.
On Saturday, Musk tweeted that Twitter's legal team accused him of violating a non-disclosure agreement by revealing that the sample size for the microblogging platform's checks on automated users was 100.
On Friday, Musk tweeted that his $44-billion cash deal to take the company private was "temporarily on hold", while he waits for Twitter to provide data on the proportion of its fake accounts.
He said that his team would "do a random sample of 100 followers" to identify the bots.
