Twitter CEO Elon Musk has said that banning former US President Donald Trump from the social media platform was a grave mistake and now the mistake has been corrected. He said on Friday that Trump was banned despite no violation of law or terms of service.

“I’m fine with Trump not tweeting. The important thing is that Twitter correct a grave mistake in banning his account, despite no violation of the law or terms of service,” he said in a tweet.

He further said, “Deplatforming a sitting President undermined public trust in Twitter for half of America.”

Musk was replying to a tweet by a Twitter user who quoted his article and said, “It's been a week since @elonmusk brought Trump back... and without him even tweeting once... The left can't handle it.”

Elon Musk also informed on the social media giant that he chose Joe Biden over Donald Trump in the previous US Presidential Elections, but now he is disappointed with the Biden administration.

He said, “As a reminder, I was a significant supporter of the Obama-Biden presidency and (reluctantly) voted for Biden over Trump.”

“But freedom of speech is the bedrock of a strong democracy and must take precedence. My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far,” the tweet further reads.

Former US President Donald Trump was banned by Twitter on January 8, 2021 by Twitter’s previous owners because of the risk of further incitement of violence following the storming of the Capitol. Twitter chief Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s account after a Twitter poll voted in favour of the restoration of the account.

However, Trump has made it clear that he has no interest in coming back to Twitter and would continue to use his social media platform Truth Social.
