ChatGPT Down: A widespread service disruption crippled ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot, leaving millions of users unable to access the platform on Thursday evening. Users across the globe reported difficulties connecting, encountering error messages, and experiencing significant delays in loading times.


The outage impacted a diverse user base, most of whom took to X (formerly Twitter) to express grievances. While some resorted to hilarious GIFs, some warned not to share screenshots of outages without hiding their IPs, as that would give away your location instantly.


What Did OpenAI Say?


OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, acknowledged the issue on its status page, stating that an "elevated error rate" was registered for ChatGPT and API. 


After investigating the issue, at around 6:15 pm IST, OpenAI updated its status page confirming that services had resumed normalcy. ABP Live could independently verify the same.


While OpenAI didn't share details, potential factors include server overload, technical malfunctions, or planned maintenance activities.
