Apple WWDC 2024: What Can We Expect

  • iOS 18: Apple wants to catch up with competitors when it comes to AI, and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has said that iOS 18 will be a "relatively groundbreaking" software update with "major new features and designs," primarily focused on AI. Apart from that, in iOS 18, we might also see other updates such as photo retouching i.e., removal of unwanted objects, auto-generated custom emojis based on the content of user's messages, AI-assisted writing in Pages, voice memo transcriptions, suggested replies to emails and messages, improved Safari web search, Siri overhaul which might integrate LLMs, smart recap for missed notifications and messages, auto-generated Apple Music playlists based on input from the user, such as a mood, etc.

  • macOS 15: So far we have seen that macOS and iOS tend to have many features in common. Most of the rumours that we have heard so far have been focused on iOS 18 but it is highly possible that many of the updates in iOS 18 will also be arriving in macOS 15.

  • Control Center: We might see a new interface for rearranging shortcut buttons and multiple pages, with an updated music widget and smart home controls.

  • Settings App: According to the rumours, we will witness improved navigation, better organisation, and more reliable search across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, at this event.

  • watchOS 11: Updated Siri interface with response formatting based on queries and major changes to key apps like Fitness.

  • Vision Pro: visionOS 2 is likely to feature new environments, Passwords app, and iPad software versions which will focus on refinement rather than new features.
