New Delhi: Apple is providing a free repair for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models if the units are experiencing sound issues. According to the iPhone maker's support forum, a small percentage of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro manufactured between October 2020-April 2021 are facing sound issues due to 'a component'.

Apple mentioned that these two models are eligible for free service and repair.

The iPhone maker also said that if there is any other damage that may affect the repair, such as a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved before the service and the owner of the device will have to bear the costs in case of such repair cases.

This comes days after Apple announced Self Service Repair, which will allow customers, who are comfortable with completing their own repairs, access to Apple genuine parts and tools.

Available initially for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups, and soon to be followed by Mac computers featuring M1 chips, Self Service Repair programme will be available early next year in the US and expand to other countries throughout 2022.

Customers join more than 5,000 Apple Authorised Service Providers (AASPs) and 2,800 Independent Repair Providers who have access to these parts, tools, and manuals.

“Creating greater access to Apple genuine parts gives our customers even more choice if a repair is needed,” Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer, had said in a statement.

“In the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of service locations with access to Apple genuine parts, tools, and training, and now we’re providing an option for those who wish to complete their own repairs," Williams added.
