Apple appears to be considering an expansion of third-party artificial intelligence (AI) integrations within Siri. The Cupertino-based company introduced Apple Intelligence to select iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices with the iOS 18.2 update in December 2024. This marked the first instance of Apple incorporating a system-wide third-party service, allowing users to redirect Siri queries to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Now, a recent leak suggests that Google’s AI models may soon be added to the mix.

Apple Exploring Google’s AI For Apple Intelligence
Analyst Aaron Perris from MacRumors shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) hinting at a potential collaboration. He posted a screenshot of what appeared to be the iOS 18.4 beta code that indicates Apple may be working on integrating Google’s Gemini AI models into its ecosystem, Gadgets360 reported.
The backend of the beta update now displays two options under the “Third-party model” section. While OpenAI was already listed, Google has now been added as another option. However, the code does not disclose any further details regarding which Gemini models might be included or what features they would support, reported Gadgets360.
If confirmed, this development would align with previous statements made by Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024. During a post-keynote session, Federighi had emphasized Apple’s intent to integrate multiple AI models alongside OpenAI’s chatbot. He specifically mentioned Google Gemini, while clarifying, “Nothing to announce right now, but that’s our direction.”
Despite the leak, the integration of Google’s Gemini models into Apple Intelligence is unlikely to be imminent. Even though the code appeared in iOS 18.4 beta, the rollout might not take place until the iPhone 17 series launch. Last year, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested that Apple could initially provide OpenAI with an exclusive window before expanding its AI partnerships.
If these reports hold true, Apple users may soon have the option to choose between multiple AI models, offering greater flexibility in how Siri handles queries.
