New Delhi: As announced by the e-commerce giant in October, Amazon Prime membership is set to become expensive in India starting December 14 (Tuesday). The hike in membership prices by 50 per cent will mean that users will have to shell out Rs 1,499 per year against the old pricing of Rs 999. Also applicable to monthly and quarterly membership plans, users will have to spend Rs 179 and Rs 459, for them, respectively, as against the former cost of Rs 129, and Rs 329.
According to the company's dedicated support page, the new pricing of the Amazon Prime membership in the country will be effective starting from 12am on December 14. However, users can opt for the old price in the meantime.
Earlier, Amazon India, in its webpage, had mentioned the reason behind the increase in membership charges.

Prime provides an unparalleled combination of shopping, savings and entertainment benefits to make life more convenient and entertaining every single day, and we continue to invest in making Prime even more valuable for customers. Prime 1- day delivery is available on millions of items," the company had explained.
