BharatGPT, the large consortium backed by Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries, is poised to introduce an artificial intelligence (AI) model tailored for India, the media has reported. The ChatGPT-style AIR model is scheduled to commence its service rollout next month in March. Comprising RIL and eight renowned universities, BharatGPT recently presented a preview of the AI model to a select audience at an event.

The AI model has been dubbed Hanooman and symbolises India's endeavour to advance potentially groundbreaking AI technology, says a report by Hindustan Times. BharatGPT's AI model will operate in 11 local languages and focus on four key sectors: healthcare, governance, financial services, and education.

At a recent event, a preview of the AI model was showcased exclusively to a select audience. The AI model provided a glimpse into its functionality. A bike mechanic was observed asking a question in Tamil (regional Indian language), while a banker engaged in conversation with the AI bot in Hindi. Additionally, a developer was depicted writing computer code with assistance from the AI model.

'Hanooman' Developed In Partnership With IITs

The AI model is being jointly developed in partnership with Indian Institute of Technology universities and it receives support from Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. Additionally, start-ups like Sarvam and Krutrim, backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Vinod Khosla’s fund, are also working on developing open-source AI models tailored for India, the report added.

'Hanooman' To Bring Speech-To-Text Capabilities

Hanooman will provide users with speech-to-text capabilities, aiming to enhance user-friendliness. Additionally, telecom major Reliance Jio plans to develop customised models for specific purposes. Reliance is also in the process of developing Jio Brain, a platform designed to utilise AI across its network of approximately 450 million subscribers in the country.

To recall, during an event last year, Reliance Jio Infocomm Chairman Akash Ambani had spoken about the company's partnership with IIT-Bombay, dating back to 2014. He emphasised that the launch of BharatGPT aligns with Jio 2.0, the company's ambitious vision aimed at nurturing a comprehensive ecosystem.
