Chip-making giant Intel has unveiled a new lineup of products designed to enhance artificial intelligence (AI) solutions across various platforms, including data centers, the Cloud, networks, edge computing, and personal computers (PCs). The Intel Core Ultra mobile processor family, built on Intel 4 process technology, represents the company's significant architectural shift after four decades, ushering in the era of the AI-powered PC with its highly efficient client processor.

The 5th-Gen Intel Xeon processor family incorporates AI acceleration in each core, resulting in significant advancements in AI and overall performance, while simultaneously reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO).

Intel's CEO, Pat Gelsinger, unveiled the upcoming Intel Gaudi3 AI accelerator for the first time, set to be released next year.

“AI innovation is poised to raise the digital economy’s impact up to as much as one-third of global gross domestic product1,” Gelsinger said in statement.

"Intel is developing the technologies and solutions that empower customers to seamlessly integrate and effectively run AI in all their applications — in the cloud and, increasingly, locally at the PC and edge, where data is generated and used,” he added at Intel's AI Everywhere event.

Intel Core Ultra represents the company’s largest architectural shift in 40 years and launches the AI PC generation with innovation on all fronts: CPU compute, graphics, power, battery life and several new AI features. The AI PC represents the largest transformation of the PC experience in 20 years, since Intel Centrino untethered laptops to connect to Wi-Fi from anywhere.

By joining hands with over 100 software vendors, Intel is expanding the availability of AI-optimised applications in the PC market. This partnership ensures a broader range of AI-enhanced applications for both consumer and commercial customers, enhancing the performance of Intel Core Ultra. The 5th Gen Xeon, serving as the primary data center processor, features integrated AI acceleration. According to the company, this new Xeon iteration achieves up to a 42 per cent increase in inference and fine-tuning performance for models as extensive as 20 billion parameters.

“Intel is on a mission to bring AI everywhere through exceptionally engineered platforms, secure solutions and support for open ecosystems. Our AI portfolio gets even stronger with today’s launch of Intel Core Ultra ushering in the age of the AI PC and AI-accelerated 5th Gen Xeon for the enterprise,” Gelsinger noted.

AI PCs based on Intel Core Ultra are now available in the US. Over the next year, Intel Core Ultra is set to introduce AI to over 230 designs from global laptop and PC manufacturers. The 5th Gen Intel Xeon processor family marks a substantial advancement in performance and efficiency. At the event, IBM reported that 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors demonstrated up to a 2.7x improvement in query throughput on its watsonx.data platform compared to the previous-generation Xeon processors in testing.

Google Cloud, planning to deploy 5th Gen Xeon next year, highlighted that Palo Alto Networks observed a 2x performance increase in threat detection deep learning models by utilizing built-in acceleration in 4th Gen Xeon through Google Cloud.
