Chennai: Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin flagged off the Jallikattu event in Madurai's Alanganallur on Tuesday. The event was flagged off on 'Kaanum Pongal', the last day of the four-day Pongal festivities in Tamil Nadu.
Quoting Madurai District Collector Aneesh Sekhar, news agency ANI said: “All security arrangements have been made for the safe conduct of #Jallikattu. Yesterday 26 people got injured and one casualty happened.”

As part of Jallikattu on Kaanum Pongal day, around 1,000 bulls and 350 bull tamers will take part in the event in Alanganallur.
The bull owners and tamers will be permitted only after online registration. They have also been given a QR code. The tamers and bulls will have to undergo a final medical checkup before the event, said a report on Times Now.
The state has also made arrangements for 160 doctors and nurses for the event.
Earlier, two persons including a bull tamer and a spectator lost their lives in two separate Jallikattu events in Pudukottai and Tiruchirapalli on Monday.
The bull tamer Aravind Raj (25) died after sustaining severe injuries while taming 8 bulls. The spectator Aravind (28) of Tiruchirapalli lost his life when a bull gored him to death while watching the event.
