Chennai: A government school teacher in the Cuddalore district was arrested for thrashing a Class 12 student on Thursday night. The police took swift action after the video went viral on social media while several political leaders demanded Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi to take action against the teacher.


According to the Times of India report, a physics teacher M Subramanian (56), left a Class 12 student bruised by kicked and caning him several times at Nandanar Government Adi Dravidar Higher Secondary School in Chidambaram on Wednesday. One of the students present in the class took a video of the scathing attack during the incident and shared it on social media without the teacher's knowledge.

Following this, police registered a case under sections of SC/ST (Prevention Of Atrocities) Act, 1989. The reason behind this atrocity on the student was that he bunked the class after taking permission from the teacher to collect a physics record notebook, the teacher confessed in the police interrogation.


The teacher further explained that his class student went to the third floor and joined seven other students to bunk the class. However, when the headmaster came for inspections and questioned about the students' absence the students were speechless. 


Following this, Subramanian beat the seven students with a cane and was harsh to the particular student since he lied and left the class. The teacher made him kneel down and beat him with a cane. He then kicked him on his thighs multiple times and a video of this atrocity has gone viral on social media.
