New Delhi: Chennai is set to hold the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Mahabalipuram on July 28. Ahead of the event, the Napier Bridge has been painted like a chess board, the video of which has gone viral on the social media.

The video clip, shared by IAS officer Supriya Sahu, was recorded from inside a car. She posted the video on Twitter and captioned it, “Chennai, the Chess Capital of India, is all set to host the grand Chess Olympiad 2022. The iconic Napier Bridge is decked up like a chess board.”

The viral video has garnered mixed reactions from netizens.

A Twitter user reacted saying, “Wow. What a spirit, Namma Chennai,” while another, adding a touch of humour, commented, “Amazing…I hope there are no orange strains after a couple of days.”

Meanwhile, some Twitter users have called the idea “dangerous” and pointed at the fact that it will distract the drivers.

One wrote, “Can cause illusion and take eyes off the road and cause accidents.” Another user said that he felt “hypnotised”.

Notably, the viral video has emerged a day after the teaser of Chess Olympiad 2022 was released by Rajinikanth.

It is to be noted that more than 2,000 players are expected to participate in the Olympiad this year. The chess event will conclude on August 10.
