Chennai: Chepauk MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin launched "Inaivom Inaiyathudan" (Let's connect with the internet) scheme for providing free wi-fi hotspots in 100+ public locations his Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency at May Day Park. The scheme was launched also on the 99th birth anniversary of former CM, DMK patriarch and grandfather of Udhayanidhi Stalin, M Karunanidhi, on Friday.


Taking to Twitter, Udhayanidhi Stalin, "In order to provide internet to everyone and to make Chepauk-Triplicane into a model constituency, we have partnered with ACT Fibernet to set up Wifi Zones in 100 places as 'Udhay Anna Free Wi-Fi Zones' on the occasion of Karunanidhi's birth anniversary."

The users can log into the Wi-Fi for free for 45 minutes duration at 20 MBPS speed. For getting the Wi-Fi, the users are expected to enter their phone number and log in using the OTP generated on ACT free WiFi portal, according to a report on The News Minute. 


The officials selected 20 places including corporation parks, Napier Park and Ratna Cafe for installing over 100 WiFi hotspots in the constituency. 


The scheme is also expected to be expanded in Chennai Metro Rail, said a release as per the report. 


Speaking during the event, MP Dayanidhi Maran recalled that he introduced one call per one rupee scheme across India while he was the Minister of Communications and IT in UPA-I government. 


Maran who is also the Chennai Central MP requested ACT to increase the free internet service hours.
