Chennai: A bus conductor from Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation was arrested for sitting near a woman passenger and sexually assaulting her in Villupuram on Friday.
According to a report on IANS, a 21-year-old woman who was traveling with her husband gave a complaint to Kaanai police station in Villupuram district alleging that she was sexually assaulted by the conductor of the bus. In the complaint, she said that she got into the bus with her husband at Villupuram and the bus was destined to Kothamanagalam. However, during the journey, some of the passengers got down and while the bus neared Perumbakkam, the conductor sat next to her and sexually assaulted her, said the complainant.
Based on the complaint, Villupuram Collector D Mohan immediately issued an order to suspend the conductor Silambarasan and the driver of the bus Anbu Selvan.
Further, Kaanai police said that the investigation is carried out to find out if similar incidents have taken place in the past. The involvement of the conductor in such incidents is also probed, the police said.
Meanwhile, a human rights activist Raghuvaran talking to IANS said that the conductor should be given maximum punishment and both the TNSTC workers must be dismissed.
Narikurava Family Told To Get Down From Bus, Two TNSTC Staff Face Suspension
Another bus conductor-driver duo was suspended on Friday after both allegedly forced a Narikurava family to get down from the bus in Kanyakumari. Three members from a Narikurava family including a visually disabled man, a woman, and a child were forced to get down in Vadacherry Busstand in Nagercoil.
A video of the incident was also widely circulated where the child was seen crying following which Tamil Nadu government initiated the action.
