Chennai: As intermittent rains are continuing in parts of Tamil Nadu, district administrations have declared holidays for schools in over 15 districts and colleges in over 10 districts of Tamil Nadu. On  Monday, the district administration declared holidays for schools and colleges in Cuddalore, Villupuram, Sivaganga, Salem, Tirupathur, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thanjavur and Tiruvannamalai districts.


Schools will remain closed in Tiruchy, Nagapattinam, Karur, Pudukottai, Tiruvarur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Vellore, Ranipet and Namakkal due to the rains.

According to the data provided by India Meteorological Department, in the last 24 hours, Chennai Nungambakkam recorded 74 mm of rainfall followed by Chennai Airport recording 51.4 mm rainfall.


The Chennai Corporation workers are engaged in full-swing to clear the uprooted trees and waterlogging. The Chennai Corporation-run shelters are gearing to provide food to the rain-affected people. 



The Chennai Metro Rail in a release said that the metro train services will run on Sundays and government holiday timetable from 5.30 am to 11.00 pm with 10 minutes headway on November 8. 


Meanwhile, independent weather Raja Ramasamy of Chennai Weather page predicted the on and off spell to continue in Chennai for the next 12-18 hours as the next system is taking shape. 



IMD Prediction


Meanwhile, according to a bulletin issued in the wee hours of Monday, the IMD said, "A cyclonic circulation lies over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean extending up to 4.5 KM above mean sea level at 3 UTC of November 7."


"Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over Southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around November 9, 2021. It is likely to become more marked and move towards north Tamil Nadu coast during the next 48 hours," the IMD said. 


Further, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin declared a holiday for government employees and requested private offices to give a holiday to their employees due to the prediction of heavy rains on Monday. 


However, Aavin milk, transportation, and other essential services are carried out without any disruption.
