TN Police Bust Drug Racket, Shut Down Meth Unit In Andhra Pradesh

The police arrested the chemist on Wednesday but are continuing to look out for the prime suspect.

Chennai: The Chennai police arrested a chemist and busted a methamphetamine or meth manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh after over 1 kg of meth was seized in Chennai. The police arrested the chemist on Wednesday but are continuing to look out for the prime suspect who started the lab and has been supplying drugs to many states including Tamil Nadu. 

According to a report on Times of India, the police seized 1 kg meth from a sub-inspector's son in Chennai and started questioning him. During the interrogation by a team led by joint commissioner RV Ramya Bharathi the man revealed that he got supplies from Ramesh of Hyderabad.

Following this, the team camped in Ongole and started following the moments of another contact of sub-inspectors son. Through this, the police found the lab where the chemical was being made. 

The team combed the lab and apprehended the chemist of the lab Venkat Reddy of Hyderabad. The police then seized all the products used to make the drugs. 

The lab originally belong to Ramesh, who is absconding, said the report.

Ramesh set up the lab by getting a fake license and used to prepare meth just like any chemical since it was ordourless.

Ramesh also hired Venkat who was working at a chemical factory to make the drugs. Every week Ramesh and his team used to make at least 4 kg drug and sold it for Rs 15-20 lakh per kg, the report quoted the police as saying.
