Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting to provide necessary relaxations in the procurement norms for mitigating the impact of unseasonal rains on the Samba crop in the Cauvery Delta.
It was reported that the unseasonal rains that lashed the Cauvery delta region in the last three days have inundated samba paddy crops and also the freshly sown seeds in lakhs of acres across the state.

Farmer representatives claimed that young crops of both green gram and black gram have been washed away after being submerged under water due to incessant rains.
In Nagapattinam district over 10,000 hectares of farmland have been covered by both green gram and black gram. However, there is no official information about the crop damage in the district but the farmers claim that the crop in the complete region has been damaged, said The Hindu report.
The farmers' representatives in the Cauvery Delta region demand the government provide seeds at subsidised rates again to the affected farmers to compensate for the loss to an extent.
