After staging a walkout amid a budget session in Tamil Nadu Assembly, Opposition leader Edapaddi Palaniswami took a dig at the ruling DMK government alleging that in their manifesto they said that all women heads of families will be given Rs 1,000 per month but now only eligible women will be benefitted.

"DMK in their manifesto said that all women heads of families will be given Rs 1,000 per month but now they are saying only eligible women heads would be given. On what basis eligibility is decided?" he questioned as quoted by news agency ANI.

This comes as a response to Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan Monday announced an allocation of Rs 7,000 crores to women heads of families will be given to eligible beneficiaries from September 15.

The Opposition leader also urged the government to provide proper protection to the migrant labourers after the alleged attacks on North Indians in Tamil Nadu.

Ahead of the budget session presented by Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, AIADMK interim General Secretary EPS along with his party leaders staged a walkout in protest against price hikes in milk, electricity bills, et al. The AIADMK also alleged murder of democracy occurred during the Erode East by-polls.

They also opposed the hike in prices of milk, electricity bill, property tax and false FIRs being lodged to target AIADMK leaders.

Earlier while addressing the Assembly and presenting the state budget, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister said that the government will build a memorial remembering two anti-Hindi protesters — Natarajan and Thalamuthu — who died in police custody in 1939.
