Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP staged a protest near Srinivasapuram in Chennai on Friday against the security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's convoy during his visit to Ferozepur of Punjab. As more than a hundred BJP cadre joined together for the protest against the COVID-19 norms, the police detained 120 BJP workers.
According to a report on Times of India, the former Union Minister from BJP Pon Radhakrishnan who took part in the protest said, the ruling Congress government in Punjab failed to provide protection to the Prime Minister of India. The Minister accused the Congress and said, the British government gave proper security to Mahatma Gandhi but the Congress which formed the government after India received Independence failed to give protection to Gandhi.
After the address, the protesters then started a march to the Gandhi Statue. However, the police denied permission due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Following this, they staged a sit-in protest and the police immediately detained 120 protestors. The protesters were taken to a community hall in Ambedkar Palam.

The Fore Shore Estate police registered a case against the leaders and later released them in the evening.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai urged Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi to take the issue of security breach during Prime Minister's visit to President Ram Nath Kovind, said a report on IANS.
He also alleged that Congress orchestrate a plan to put PM Modi's life in danger. He also said that Punjab CM, Chief Secretary and DGP were not present while PM Modi reached Punjab to launch Central government schemes in the state.
There was negligence in security arrangements and the PM's itinerary was leaked by Congress IT cell, MPs, MLAs and other leaders, he alleged.
On Wednesday, while PM Modi was on his way to a rally there was a security lapse after some protesters blocked his route and made PM's convoy stay on a flyover for over 20 minutes.
