Chennai: Tightening the noose on YouTuber Madhan, the cybercrime cell on Tuesday booked him under the Goondas Act.
He was arrested by Chennai police from a relative’s house in Dharmapuri on June 18 for using abusive language while hosting live PUBG gaming videos on his YouTube channels for his minor subscribers.
Madhan who was serving at Central Prison in Puzhal, had applied for bail three times, but every time his bail plea was dismissed, and now the Goondas Act will allegedly keep him behind the bars for at least a year.
According to the TOI report, he can appeal against the detention within three months of the order being served. Madhan’s wife Kiruthika, who was also arrested in the case and released from prison on bail last week, visited the commissioner’s office on Tuesday and lodged a complaint against those spreading malicious information against her husband and herself.
The 29-year-old engineer launched a channel in 2019, sharing tips on playing PUGB which is ban in India for some time. His channels allegedly had over 8 lakh subscribers of which most were minors.
The police registered a case against him on June 16 under Sections 294(b)(using obscene words) and 509(Word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC, read with provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 following a complaint from a Vadapalani resident.
Madhan was detained two days after his wife Kiruthik was arrested on June 16 from their Salem resident. Sources also have it that over 160 complaints were filed against him so far.
