A 23-year-old man who impregnated a minor and refused to marry her in the future died from injuries after being thrashed by five person including the girl's brother in Coimbatore. The deceased, S Jayachandiran, a petrol bunk employee in Vellalore, developed feelings for a 16-year-old child, who is the sister of the primary suspect.

Initially, the girl's brother opposed the relationship but later supported them. He also convinced both the families to accept the relationship.

However, the deceased promised to marry the girl after she turned 18 and impregnated her.

Later, the girl underwent an abortion with the help of her family members. After the abortion, the brother told him to wait for the girl to reach an age and to not cheat on her.

Yet, Jayachandiran had told that he decided not to marry the girl. Angered by this, his friends including the brother of the girl assaulted him in an inebritated state with logs, according to a report on Times of India.

According to the police, Jayachandiran was taken by a group to a secluded area near Thadagam to caution him, where he was reportedly assaulted with logs. They then brought him to the city. Despite the attack, Jayachandiran returned home to Mahaliamman Kovil Street near Irugur without informing anyone about the assault.

However, he developed complications due to his head injury. Later, he was taken to a private hospital. However, he was shifted to CMCH where he died without responding to the treatment.

The police have altered the attempt to murder case to a case to murder.

Later, the police formed three special teams and arrested the suspect on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Dindigul and Salem districts have consistently ranked among the top districts in Tamil Nadu for successfully preventing child marriages over the past three years.
