Chennai: When the health staff reached at a tribal village on the outskirts of Coimbatore, to inoculate people, many climbed the trees and women ran to the nearby river to avoid getting vaccinated as they fear that they would die would die after taking the jabs.
On Friday morning, medical workers Dr. Kanagarani, junior doctor Hariprasadh and Nurse Stella from Booluvampatti primary health centre walked all the way to the Tribal area for the vaccination camp.
Dr.Kanagarani told TOI, “The minute they saw us, they fled. The women went to the river stating they had to fetch water, while men ran to the while men ran to the fields and forests. A few climbed up trees. We tried our best to get them to return.”
The team stood below the trees in an attempt to aware them, but their efforts went into vein as the Tribal asked us to leave, according to medical officer.
However, the team got success in inoculating 10 tribal people. Out of crowd, one resident said to be informed the PHC that 50 were people willing to take the jab.
According to reports, the 16 tribal settlements at Bouluvampatti are home to 3,630 people. Of them, only 498 have been vaccinated so far. “Things are improving. In Mullangadu hamlet, many of the 700 residents have expressed willingness to get inoculated,” Dr Dr Kanagarani told to Times Of india.
