Chennai: A gang of goat thieves murdered a Special Sub-Inspector (SSI) of Police on Sunday when he caught them red-handed with goats and tried to arrest them near Pallathupatti village on Tiruchy-Pudukottai National Highway. The police have arrested four persons, including a 10-year-old child, in cinnection with the murder. 

According to a report on IANS, SSI Bhoominathan, who was on night patrol, saw a group of people stealing goats and he attempted to stop them. He initially waved at the bikers to stop the vehicle but they did not oblige and tried to flee the scene. The gang then entered Pudukottai but SSI chased them on his bike and held two thieves. However, the other gang members stopped the vehicle and started to attack the cop with machetes.

They slashed his body and neck until he left the hold of the two thieves. The incident left him in a pool of blood and the cop later died on the spot. 


Following the incident, the police formed a special team to nab the gang members. On Sunday late hours, the special team nabbed four people including two minors. The police are currently conducting an inquiry and all four of them are reportedly from Thanjavur, said a report on ABP Nadu.  


Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore to the kin of the deceased cop and offered a government job to a family member.
