DMK leader Shimla Muthuchozhan who contested against former AIADMK General Secretary and ex-CM Jayalalithaa in Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2016 joined AIADMK on Thursday. Muthuchozhan joined AIADMK in the presence of party's General Secretary K Palaniswami at the party headquarters.

Shimla Muthuchozhan is the daughter-in-law of DMK leader SP Sarguna Pandian. The DMK leader Sarguna Pandian was a Minister in M Karunanidhi government.

The switch of Muthuchozhan ahead of Lok Sabha Election 2024 is seen as a boost for AIADMK, the main opposition party in TN.

However, DMK sources mentioned to IANS that Muthuchozhan has been inactive in politics for a while now.

Meanwhile, DMK also finalised seat-sharing agreement between VCK and MDMK on Friday. VCK was allocated two seats, both of which were reserved constituencies, whereas MDMK received one seat.

Last month, a former DMK MP and 15 ex-MLAs from various political parties switched sides to the BJP during an event in Delhi. The defectors included leaders from DMK, AIADMK, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) and the Congress.

"Some of them have been involved in politics for the past five decades, while others were present at the inception of political parties in Tamil Nadu. Today, they have gathered at the headquarters in New Delhi to formally join the BJP and seek the blessings of party president J P Nadda. This marks the first instance in Tamil Nadu where 16 individuals have joined the party simultaneously. Additionally, two former MLAs had previously joined the party during the ‘En Mann En Makkal’ yatra," stated Annamalai, as per a report on Indian Express.
