New Delhi: Tamil Nadu on Wednesday logged 14,013 fresh Covid cases taking the total count to 33,75,329. The southern state also reported 37 deaths over the last 24 hours pushing the toll to 37,636.


A total of 24,576 patients recuperated from the infection and the active caseload stood at 1,77,999. The news cases took the test positivity rate (TPR) to 10.67 per cent.


The state capital Chennai topped the Covid chart with 2,045 cases and 10 fatalities, followed by Coimbatore with 1,696 cases, Chengalpet with 1,198, Tiruppur with 1,159, Erode with 813 and Salem with 716 cases over the last 24 hours on Wednesday.






It is to be noted that among other districts, Ariyalur, Kallakurichi, Mayiladuthurai, Perambalur, Pudukkotai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Tenkasi, and Vellore clocked less than 100 Covid cases.


Notably, Tamil Nadu witnessed the peak in the ongoing wave on January 22 at 30,744. Since then, the cases have started declining and on January 31, the southern state reported less than 20,000 infections, and have been seeing a steady drop since.


Meanwhile, amid a drop in Covid cases, physical classes for standards 1 to 12 resumed after a brief hiatus.


According to the guidelines issued by the state education department, the schools followed several safety measures such as making the sitting arrangements in a way that social distancing is followed at all time, keeping hand sanitizers at places, sanitizing the entire school campus, among others.


The schools also have facilities for those students who wish to carry on with the online mode of classes.


Earlier on Tuesday, the southern state logged 16,096 Covid cases and 35 fatalities.
