Two spectators died and 40 others were injured in a manjuvirattu event in Sivaganga on Wednesday. On the last day of Pongal, Kaanum Pongal, several jallikattu and manjuvirattu events are held across Tamil Nadu. manjuvirattu is a bull-taming event that parallels bull-taming event jallikattu. 


According to ANI, Sivaganga SP confirmed, two spectators were gored to death and 40 were injured in Siravayal Manjuvirattu (Jallikattu) event in Sivaganga today (Wednesday).

When a bull was let out by the owner on Wednesday, the ferocious animal charged at a 12-year-old boy, who was present at the venue to witness the bull-taming event. The deceased boy was later identified as Baskar (a) Rahul. In the event, another 35-year-old man was also gored to death by a bull. 


On Wednesday, Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin flagged off a jallikattu event in Madurai. Thousands of participants took part in the sport. Bulls were let out one by one through Vaadivasal (entry point) and tamers tried to hold the hump and control the bulls on Wednesday. Winners got prizes such as bicycles, electrical appliances, and silver or gold coins. Some were even given rings with pictures of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin and Udhayanidhi Stalin.














Jallikattu is conducted annually in districts like Madurai, Trichy, Pudukottai, and Thanjavur during the four-day Pongal festivities including Bhogi, Pongal, Maatu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal. Madurai, considered the heartland, sees participation from over 12,176 bulls and 4,514 tamers in the competition.


Meanwhile, the famous bull race, known as Rekla race, was held in Thirukkadayur of Mayiladuthurai district on Wednesday. Hundreds of participants rode bulls and competed with each other in the district.
