Chennai: Tamil Nadu CM Stalin on Thursday made several announcements to encourage sports training among the people of the state including setting up of four olympic academies and a special stadium for Jallikattu in Alanganallur. TN CM also allotted Rs 25 crore for Olympic Gold Fest to increase the chance of Tamil Nadu players bagging gold in the Olympics.


Making the announcement under Rule 110 in the Assembly on Thursday, TN CM Stalin said, “To increase the chance of TN sportspersons bagging medals in International Sports Competitions including Olympics, four olympics academy will be set up in four regions of the state.”

“Sports practice facilities will also be set up in all assembly constituencies at the cost of Rs 3 crore. By this, underprivileged students from rural and urban areas can get access to sports training,” he said.

Further, CM Stalin said, “A boxing stadium will be set up in North Chennai at Rs 10 crore. The stadium will also have facility to train sportsperson for volleyball, basketball, boxing, kabaddi and other indoor games stadium. A modern gym will also be set up in the stadium.” 


“A special stadium will be set up for Jallikattu in Alanganallur.  To motivate marital arts of Silambam, the Silambam champs will be given 3% internal reservation under sports quota,” he said.

On wooing investors into the state through sports, the CM said, “Chess Olympiad is going to be held by Tamil Nadu government from July 28 to August 10. People from 180 countries will participate in the competition. A special team has also been set up for the same.”

“Similarly, Chennai Open Tennis and Beach Volleyball Tournaments will also be conducted. This will encourage foreign investment in sport and tourism,” he said.
