Chennai: After recording a thumping victory in the direct rural local body polls in the state, DMK yet again registered a grand win and added another feature to the cap after recording only victories since the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. In the indirect election conducted by Election Commission, the DMK won all the nine district panchayat seats including Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Vellore, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli.

The DMK and allies also won most panchayat union chairman posts and panchayat union vice-chairman posts in the indirect elections.

According to a report by Times of India, the DMK won 9 district panchayat seats, 68 panchayat union chairman posts, and 62 panchayat vice-chairman posts in the indirect elections.

DMK's ally, Congress bagged five seats including two district vice-chairman and three panchayat vice-chairman seats. VCK won one panchayat vice chairman seat and MDMK received the panchayat union chairman seat.

However, AIADMK and allies did not record any win in the elections for district panchayat seats. AIADMK won one panchayat union chairman and vice-chairman seat each.

In some of the seats, DMK candidates won with the support of AIADMK and PMK members.

The elections to 3 panchayat union chairman seats and five panchayat union vice-chairman posts were marred due to various reasons.

Following this, Opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami alleged that DMK stopped the elections by creating a ruckus in places where DMK did not have any chance of winning. He also accused the State Election Commission of failing to act and remaining a spectator to the activities of DMK.

The state EC conducted indirect polls to nine newly formed districts on October 22.
