Chennai: A bus conductor was killed after a drunk passenger assaulted him on a moving bus near Melmaruvathur on Friday. 


According to a report on ABP Nadu, the preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was Perumal (54) of Kallakurichi district and he was working as a conductor for the past few years in the Villupuram bus depot. 


The police have also picked up the accused identified as Murugan (35) of Sunambedu for investigation.


Recently, a bus bound to Villupuram started its journey from Koyambedu Bus Stand on Friday. When the bus neared the Mathuranthagam bus stop on Chennai-Trichy National Highway, an inebriated man boarded the bus.

After the bus started its journey again, the man created a ruckus and verbally abused the conductor. Even as the passengers tried to stop the man, he continued to say abusive statements and even attempted to assault the conductor.


After a while, the drunk man rushed to the conductor and assaulted him. The conductor soon swooned and fell down to the ground on the moving bus.

The passengers on seeing this immediately alerted the bus driver and took the conductor to Adhiparasakthi Hospital in Melmaruvathur. However, the doctors declared him brought dead. 


Following this, Madhuranthagam police registered a complaint and the investigation is on.


Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu CM Stalin announced Rs 10 lakh ex gratia to the next kin of the deceased conductor.
