Tamil Nadu All-Party Delegation Meet Union Minister Amit Shah Over NEET Bill

Chennai: Tamil Nadu's all-party delegation met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday after a few attempts and submitted a petition demanding exemption from NEET and disbursal of the Centre's assistance for revamping rain-affected areas. The meet of the Union Minister and MPs come after TN CM Stalin in the Assembly said that the Union Minister was denying to meet the MPs and the denial is against the democratic ethos of the country. 

According to a tweet on ANI, a delegation of several political party representatives from Tamil Nadu met Home Minister Amit Shah and handed over a memorandum with a few demands mainly to exempt Tamil Nadu from NEET. 

After the meet talking to reporters, DMK MP TR Baalu said, the Home Minister has promised to hold a discussion with the Union Health Minister and Education Minister about the issue after which he would convey the decision to CM Stalin. 

Further, the MP said, on the rain-related funds Shah said he would ensure the disbursal of funds by January 31.

VCK MP Ravikumar, who was also a part of the delegation in a tweet said, "We insisted the Centre exempt Tamil Nadu from NEET and to release the disaster management funds. We also brought to the Home Minister's notice on the denial of permission for Tamil Nadu's tableau for Republic Day parade."

After the meet, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin in a separate letter reiterated the need to immediately disburse the fund for flood damages by citing the financial burden due to the third COVID-19 wave.

The CM said, "Tamil Nadu witnessed unprecedented rainfall during the NE Monsoon 2021 causing floods in Chennai and other parts of the state. My government has submitted three memoranda seeking financial assistance of Rs 6230.45 crores from Government of India towards relief and restoration."

"The third wave of COVID-19 has already arrived and it’s causing severe stress on state finances, lockdown conditions associated to covid management and adds to the distress of the people who suffered the aftermath of floods," the CM said adding, hence it would be of immense help if the NDRF assistance for flood damages are released immediately.
