Chennai: The Supreme Court stayed the Madras HC order on June 23 which stayed the passing of additional resolutions in AIADMK General Council Meet. The Apex Court gave the judgment while hearing a case by AIADMK leader Edappadi Palaniswami challenging the Madras High Court order against amending its bylaws during the general council meeting.

On Wednesday, the case of EPS came up for hearing before the vacation bench of Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and Krishna Murari who passed the interim order against Madras HC's June 23 order and directed the parties to file a counter-affidavit in two weeks.


Senior Advocate Maninder Singh appearing for the caveator said, the coordinator and joint coordinator posts should be effective till September 2022 but ought to be unilaterally changed.

Making a note of it, the SC said that the general council meet can proceed in accordance with the law. As per bar and bench, the SC bench said, "Who wants to do what within the party forum is essentially within that compact only."


The bench also said that they are not stopping anything and the next meeting will go on.

The case came up after Madras HC on June 23 stalled the passing of a resolution entertaining single leadership for AIADMK during the general council meet.


From the time of former CM J Jayalalithaa's death, AIADMK had been functioning with dual leaders including Panneerselvam and Edappadi K Palaniswami as coordinator and joint coordinator respectively.
