Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is set to officially inaugurate Kalaignar Multi Super Speciality Hospital constructed at Guindy in Chennai on Thursday. The inauguration ceremony is likely to be attended by Ministers, MPs, MLAs and the public.

Tamil Nadu CM made the announcement about the inauguration on social media and took a jibe at Union Government. Stalin said, “Just fifteen months after laying the foundation stone, Kalaignar Centenary Multi-Specialty Hospital will be inaugurated today! We are delivering on our aims!”

It can be noted that the ‘aims’ mentioned by the CM were an indirect jibe at the delay in the construction of AIIMS, Madurai by the Central government. In March, TN Health Minister Ma Subramanian said that AIIMS at Thoppur has not taken off yet and only a compound wall has remained.

In Guindy, the multi-disciplinary hospital will have 1,000 beds and has been constructed at the cost of Rs 230 crore. The multi-super specialty hospital has been built on the premises of the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research.

The hospital is set to have facilities including cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, surgical Gastroenterology, medical and surgical oncology, vascular surgery, urology and other departments.

CM Stalin first made the announcement on the construction of the hospital in Guindy on June 3, 2021. He laid the foundation stone for the hospital on March 2022.

The newly constructed hospital was earlier scheduled to be opened on June 3, the centenary birth anniversary of Kalaignar M Karunanidhi. For the inauguration, Stalin personally went and invited President Droupadi Murmu but the date was postponed due to her unavailability.
