Thiruvavaduthurai Aadheenam Sri Sri Ambalavana Desika Paramacharya Swamigal said that the mutt does not have any photos of Lord Mountbatten during the transfer of power but pictures have been published in English newspapers in 1947.

Addressing the reporters in Chennai, Sri la Sri Ambalavana Desika Paramacharya Swamigal said, “There is no photograph of Lord Mountbatten. Only those alive during that time can confirm the event.”

“Just like how Cholas took oath with 'Sengol', a similar 'Sengol' was made and given to Nehru. This is history. There are newspaper articles to prove the event,” he said, as per The New Indian Express.

However, the Aadheenam spokesperson said that the special souvenirs recorded an account of the math having handed over 'sengol' to Lord Mountbatten.

Special Souvenir Recorded Transfer Of Power: Aadheenam Spokesperson

The spokesperson of Aadheenam, as per The Hindu, said that special souvenirs published after Independence and first Republic Day recorded an account of the math having handed over 'sengol' to Lord Mountbatten. The mutt has also recorded the 'sengol' given to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

The copy of the souvenir was also available with the Aadheenam, he said.

In an official release, Thiruvavadhuthurai Aadheenam said that it was sad to see them (Congress) trying to reduce the importance of the use of 'Sengol' as a transfer of power for the sake of politics.

The Thiruvavaduthurai Aadheenam's statement came after the Congress said that there was no documented evidence of 'Sengol' being the transfer of power from the British.

Taking to Twitter, Jairam Ramesh, "There is No documented evidence whatsoever of Mountbatten, Rajaji & Nehru describing this sceptre as a symbol of transfer of British power to India. All claims to this effect are plain and simple — BOGUS. Wholly and completely manufactured in the minds of a few and dispersed into WhatsApp, and now to the drum-beaters in the media. Two of the finest Rajaji scholars with impeccable credentials have expressed surprise."

"The sceptre is now being used by the PM & his drum-beaters for their political ends in Tamil Nadu. This is typical of this brigade that embroiders facts to suit its twisted objectives," he said.
