Chennai: A government middle school is conducting special classes for children with disabilities in Laspettai of Puducherry. Till now, 15 students are enrolled in the classes. 


According to ANI, the school management offers first of a kind initiative in a government school where inclusive education is imparted for children with disabilities.


The class has a strength of 15 students and it includes children who are mentally challenged, speech-impaired and hearing-impaired.

The Headmaster of the school Bhaskaran said, "We've to implement New Education Policy, a part of that is inclusive education. 15 students have enrolled in the special classes."


"We have special teachers in our school. We have provisions for speech therapy, sensory physiotherapy and inclusive footwork. Special education included in our school,"  he said.

Puducherry also has other special schools that offered assistance even during the pandemic. 


Chitra Shah, director of the school as per Edex said, there were parents who were panic-stricken during the pandemic and some of them even had suicidal thoughts since they did not know how to handle the child alone all day.


However, the parents of Satya did not have these issues since they were made co-therapists and they were also made to attend several workshops and training sessions to handle their child at ease.
